The Ear Institute offers a complete range of diagnostic hearing evaluations. All tests are non-invasive and conducted in a friendly environment. Your professional will explain to you the test procedures as well as the results obtained.

On your first visit you will be introduced to one of our professionals who will follow the following procedures:

  • Our professional will ask you a number of questions to obtain a full patient history as to the problem(s) you are experiencing (20min).
  • The professional will then conduct a number of different tests according to your problem.

A standard hearing test will consist of:

  • Pure tone audiogram – both air conduction and bone conduction tests will be performed to determine the degree of hearing loss (if any) you might have.
  • Full Speech audiogram – determining what levels of speech is understandable at different loudness intensity levels.
  • Tympanometry testing – this test provides information on the functioning of the eardrum and middle ear.
  • OAE – should the professional find it necessary he/she will conduct an OAE test determining the function of the cochlea (inner ear) which will determine specific location of possible damage/ deterioration of the outer hair sells.

Total time of your first visit will be approximately estimated at 60 to 90 minutes.

Should the professional feel that further advanced testing may be necessary they will consult with the patient and motivate for further testing procedures.

An appointment will be made for the following diagnostic evaluations:

  • ABR/ASSR – evaluation of the auditory nerve from the ear to the brain.
  • ENG – the ENG is a balance disorder test specifically designed for people experiencing various balance disorder symptoms e.g. dizziness, off-balance, etc.
